Ye are not
your own … for ye are bought with a price: therefore
glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are
God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20.
It has
been said that becoming a Christian is optional, but
after we become Christians we have no option, we are to
obey. Most church members are strangely ignorant of
that. We go on living as though we were our own and had
paid for our redemption. But we are not owners of
anything, we are stewards of everything we are and have.
And it is required of stewards that they be faithful. It
is required of servants that they serve. It is required
of soldiers that they obey. And every Christian is a
steward, a servant, and a soldier.
We have no
right to anything, we are bought and paid for by the
blood of Christ. We are His property. It is not for us
lightly to choose what we shall give or withhold. We
belong to Another and He has the say-so.
What a
long way we are from realizing this on Sunday morning,
when we have to be begged and besought to give God a
tip! To withhold one thing is theft, for everything is
His!

And they, continuing daily.… And the Lord
added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Acts 2:46, 47.
The new testament does not abound in instruction
as to what we now call “personal work” and
“soul-winning.” The epistles indoctrinate and exhort
as to Christian growth, and it seems to be assumed
that a normal Christian will by life and lip win
others.
Nowadays we drive and plan and put on courses
galore trying to get Christians to do what should be
their natural practice, not only with regard to
reaching the lost, but with regard to church
attendance, tithing, missions, and all other phases
of service. All of this should be the spontaneous
expression of our love for Christ and others.
The Early Church continued daily in fellowship
and faithfulness, and the Lord added daily in
fruitfulness. What we labor and sweat to produce is
a natural consequence in the Scriptures. It is high
time we majored on the conditions that produce the
results we seek. A church in faith and fellowship
will be faithful and fruitful. Which brings it, of
course, to the door of each of us. If we follow Him
daily He will make us fishers of men daily.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in
my love. John 15:10.
This is only one of many verses that connect
fellowship with Christ with obedience to Him. We are
His friends if we do His commandments. If we do
God’s will we are Jesus’ brother and sister. He that
has and keeps His commandments, he it is that loves
the Lord.
We are prone to make much of abiding, not much of
obeying. We bask in the blessedness of being His
friends, dwelling in Him, being hid with Christ in
God. But Jesus always joins this holy estate with
practical obedience. We hang up promises as mottoes
but we are not so fond of commandments.
Contemplation and adoration and mysticism have their
place, but the friend of Jesus is the man who does
what Christ commands him. To be sure, His
commandment is that we love one another, but that
includes a lot of other commandments and is as
practical as the Thirteenth Chapter of First
Corinthians.
A lot of people sing, “Oh, How I Love Jesus,” who
are not keeping His commandments. And He said, “If a
man love me, he will keep my words.”

Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16.
Some hide their light under bushel or bed (Mk.
4:21; Lk. 8:16), being busy or lazy, so that it
fails to shine. Some go to the other extreme, like
the Pharisees (Mt. 6:1, 2, 16), who wanted to
impress people with their piety. It is not a glare
but a glow, and we are simply to let it shine.
Some saints remind us of a man with a high-powered
flashlight trying to dazzle people with a blinding
display. God prefers stars to comets. His figure is
a candle, not a firecracker.
Between the saints who hide their light and those
who display it we have hard going these days. We
learn more and more to appreciate those who just let
it shine. We are too aware of the “men” in our text
and not aware enough of our Father. Our sole
business is to glorify Him and so let our light
shine that others will glorify Him too.

Are not
five sparrows sold for two ||farthings, and not one of them
is forgotten before God? 7 But even the very hairs of your
head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more
value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:6–7
KJV
Many
Christians make the mistake of thinking God is too busy
taking care of the big things to be interested in the little
problems they are facing. Are you one of them? It may be
your child's bed-wetting habit, a quarrel with a friend or a
small pimple on your face. No matter how trivial it sounds,
if it troubles you then God wants to take care of it.
God
wants to take care of every area of your life, even the
smallest detail. He loves you so much that he knows the
number of hairs on your head, and if your Heavenly Father
knows even the small details then you don't have to overcome
any problem on your own.
Your
Heavenly Father cares for you in the same way as He lays out
His plans for you. You are on His heart all the time. as He
carefully considers and makes plans for every aspect of your
life. The very thought of you puts a smile on His face
because the plans for you are to bless you. There is no
problem, large or small that is too insignificant for Him to
handle. He is not just God Almighty, but He is your Heavenly
Father who loves you.
