"I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord."  Psalm 122:1

As David ascended toward Jerusalem and the designated place called "the house of the LORD," he rejoiced to arrive and enter the place that reminded him of the presence, promises, and power of God.  Although God is omnipresent (everywhere present), the house of God was a special place of the people of Israel.  It was special because it was the visible place God chose to dwell among His people.

David knew the joy and blessing of being in the house of the LORD!  Whether he was sitting, standing, or kneeling or whether he was praising, praying, or just being still, David was glad when it was time to go into the house of the Lord.

Just as David rejoiced and anticipated the time to gather in the house of the Lord, may you too discover and experience the joy and delight of coming together with other believers into the house of the LORD each week.  May you experience His presence, be reminded of His promises, and be touched by His power as we gather in the house of the LORD.

"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."  Proverbs 31:28

Billy Graham said that, "In many Crusades over the years I have devoted at least one message to the subject of the family.  In my Depression-era growing-up years, I suppose we Grahams on our North Carolina dairy farm bore some resemblance to the fictional Walton family on television.  It's easy to feel nostalgic about simpler times, but they obviously were not easier times.  Nor were they necessarily happier times.

"What we did have back then was family solidarity.  We really cared about each other, and we liked to do things together.  Jesus' word picture of a hen gathering her brood under her wing fits my mother. She saw to it that we gathered frequently and regularly---and not just around the dinner table or in front of the radio for favorite broadcasts.  She gathered us around herself and my father to listen to Bible stories, to join in family prayers, and to share a sense of the presence of God."

When Mr. Graham received word his mother had entered into God's eternal presence, he said, "I wept and yet rejoiced at the same time.  Of all the people I have ever known, she had the greatest influence on me.  I am sure one reason that the Lord has directed and safeguarded me, as well as Ruth and the children, through the years was the prayers of my mother and father." Thank you for godly parents.

"And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."  Luke 2:52

Jesus is our earthly example - our perfect earthly example.  Just as it is necessary for Jesus to increase favor with God, we too are called to increase in favor with God.  Like Jesus, let us concentrate on pleasing God and walking in His statures, and as we do, we will increase in God's favor.  We will also discover that the Lord will give us favor when we need it most.

When you begin to walk in the favor and blessing of the Lord, others will recognize it as well and your life can be a powerful witness of God's favor and grace.

The favor and blessing of God on your life is one of the most powerful things that can be released to you - to bless you, your family, and others.  May you be encouraged to position yourself in such a way before the Lord that it will allow you to walk in His unmerited favor.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God...."  Romans 12:1

In Romans 12 Paul expounds on the practical application or outworking of God's righteousness in a believer's life.  Paul commences this portion with 'Therefore', linking it to the previous 11 chapters where he systematically presented the gospel message, beginning at the root cause - man's sin that led to separation from God and hence the need for mercy, God's righteousness in condemning sin and His plan for salvation through His Son Jesus Christ.

"Therefore" not out of an obligation, but with a heart of gratitude for God's mercies towards us, he urges us to present ourselves as a living and holy sacrifice.
