And the peace of God, which passeth all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
Whenever there is unrest, the cry that
prevails is the need for peace. For many, peace is
simply the absence of conflict. However, there is a
peace that God promises to you that has nothing to
do with the absence of conflict. In fact, this is a
peace that flows even in the midst of conflict. This
is known as peace that passes or transcends our
understanding.|
What we need to know is...how do we access
this peace? How can you and I experience the peace
of God which transcends all understanding as
promised in Philippians 4:7? ”
The peace of God that transcends our
understanding is the kind of peace God offers. Yet
it is not a passive peace, but an active peace that
is fighting on your behalf. The peace of God that is
accessible to those who have peace from God is
available as we practice thanking and thinking.
May I encourage you to read the verses
before and after Philippians 4:7 and notice the
importance of thanking and thinking in relationship
to the peace of God that is available to you TODAY
to keep your heart and your mind through Christ
Jesus.

“These
things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in
you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:11
Joy is a word that we hear, but do we
understand the concept of joy or know what it’s like to
experience complete joy. As Christians, our joy is not
found in our possessions or accomplishments; rather, it
is found in our Savior, Jesus Christ.
“What is joy?” Let us not confuse joy
with happiness or even an intense feeling of excitement.
The Bible emphasizes joy, not happiness. Joy is richer
than happiness or excitement. Happiness can easily shift
with a person’s mood and circumstances. Joy, on the
other hand, does not depend on our feelings toward our
situation, and thus, it is not easily shaken. In fact,
joy is about how we chose to respond and the attitude we
have.
“Where can one find our joy?” We can
find complete joy only in God. The Scriptures direct us
to find joy in our hope in God. Psalm 16:11 mentions
finding joy in God’s presence, Philippians 4 instructs
us to rejoice in the Lord, and in John 15, Jesus tells
us that He gives His complete joy to us.
And we can chose to pursue Jesus and
the joy regardless of life’s circumstances. Our
relationship with Jesus is to be our greatest joy. He
gives us complete joy, which we simply cannot find apart
from Him. His joy is a gift that we can choose to accept
and pursue no matter where we are in life and no matter
our situation. Thank God for His joy - joy that is
unspeakable and full of glory!

If
ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven
give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:11
Jesus
makes a brief statement about earthly fathers or parents,
comparing them to God the Father. He states that if earthly
fathers who are by nature and practice: conceived in sin,
shaped in iniquity; and transgressors from the womb; if they
are able to give good things to their children, how much
more is God the Father able to give good things to those who
ask Him?
This argument is taken from the lesser to the greater, and
runs thus; that if you, who are but men, men on earth, and
yes, unrighteous men, if you know how to give good gifts
unto your children and can find in your hearts and have the
power in your hands to give suitable provisions for the
support and sustenance of your children; how much more shall
your Father, which is in heaven; who is omniscient and
omnipotent; who knows the persons and wants of His children,
and what is proper for them, and is able to relieve them,
being Lord of heaven and earth, how much more shall He give
good things to them that ask Him?
God
the Father is not only able to provide temporal good things,
as meat, drink, and clothing; but He is able to provide all
spiritual good things; every supply of grace; all things
pertaining to life and godliness. God is a good God and He
is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that you
might think or ask, because of the power that lives (Eph
3:20) in those who spiritually call God their heavenly
Father.

Submit yourselves therefore to
God. James 4:7a
Just as we may pray to the Lord, “Lord, I
want all You have for me,” He says to those who belong to
Him, “I want all of you.” And it ts for that reason that
James writes, “Submit yourself to God.” This verse initiates
what Kent Hughes refers to as a tidy unit of ten terse
commands beginning with this dominant command to submit and
ending with a summary command to humble one's self. Hughes
goes on to add that “James wants to so fire the souls of his
people that they will swim triumphantly in the river of
grace. May it be so for us as well!”
The command to submit is a basic requirement
which must precede obedience to the subsequent commands.
Proud hearers will not submit and surely will not obey any
of the other commands. Humble people on the other hand will
submit and obey. Humble Christians will say, Lord, Here I
am, here I stand, my life is in Your hands. “Lord, I’m
longing to see Your desires revealed in me. I give myself
away and submit my whole self to You. Will you give your
SELF, your whole SELF to the Lord today?
