“They
exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and
served created things rather than the Creator — who is
forever praised” Romans 1:25
Everything we do revolves around an exchange. We exchange
time for money. We exchange money for goods. We exchange
goods for services rendered.
At the end of Romans 1, Paul writes about another
exchange we sometimes make (see verse above). Paul saw
people all around him worshipping their possessions or
obsessions, instead of God, who created and gave those
things in the first place.
Reflect upon the following statement: “Trading the
Creator for His creation is never an even exchange.”
Why would anyone exchange the joy of knowing the Creator
of the Universe to worship someone or something He created?
Yet we do as we chase, pursue, desire, or covet the
temporary things of this world, instead of finding our
identity in knowing God and being His child.
Jesus left His throne in heaven and became the perfect,
sinless sacrifice for man, so that He may sit on the throne
of our hearts. Examine your heart and refuse to buy the lie
that anything less than Him is worthy of our worship.

Be still, and know that I am God;” Psalm 46:10a
Women enter motherhood in many different ways including
fostering, adoption, miscarriage, and spiritual influence.
Regardless of how motherhood is defined, the one common
thread is influence. Whether you consider yourself to be a
“traditional” mother or are a woman pouring into someone’s
life, will you recognize the important influence you hold?
Each of you are unique, fearfully, and wonderfully made
and have the ability to shape others. May you be encouraged
to grow in your faith, and ultimately influence those around
you toward Christ.
As you take time to
be still before the Lord in His Word this week, may you make
the most of this opportunity to grow in your faith
and become or continue to be the person God has created you
to be. So, whether you're a mother, grandmother, aunt,
sister, or dear friend, remember – the question isn’t if you
have influence, but rather the type of influence you have.
To all the mothers, may you have a wonderful Mother’s
Day.

These all continued with one accord
in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the
mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Acts 1:14
Often when Jesus' early disciples got
together, the Scriptures reveal that they devoted
themselves to prayer. In Acts 1, they prayed in
preparation for the Spirit's coming. They later prayed
for boldness in the face of persecution (Acts 4:23-31).
Peter and John went into the Temple at the time of
prayer and healed the man at the gate called Beautiful
(Acts 3:1-9).
The apostles delegated some
responsibilities to others so that they could devote
themselves to prayer and sharing the message of Jesus
(Acts 6:1-7). Peter was praying when he received his
vision that led to the conversion of a Gentile army
officer (a Roman centurion, Cornelius), who was also a
man of prayer (Acts 10:1-13).
The disciples prayed when Peter was put
into prison and was miraculously delivered to them
safely (Acts 12:5-12). When you look at the church
today, do you wonder how our emphasis on and passion for
prayer compares to the early disciples? May we be
encouraged to Pray-Until-Something-Happens (PUSH)
for the glory of the Lord.

And, behold,
I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye
in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power
from on high. Luke 24:49
Jesus instructed His disciples to go
to Jerusalem and wait upon the empowerment of the Holy
Spirit (see verse above). We learn in the book of Acts
what that heavenly power was. “But you shall receive
power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and
you shall be witnesses unto me…” (Acts 1:8).
The working of the Spirit’s power can be seen very
clearly in the book of Acts. It was the Spirit who gave
the believers the ability to speak in other languages on
the Day of Pentecost. (see Acts 2) It was also
the Spirit which gave Peter and John the strength and
courage to stay strong in the face of adversity (see
Acts 4:7).
What does it mean to be ‘filled with
the Spirit?’ Paul teaches us in Ephesians 5 that being
‘filled with the Spirit’ is the same as being totally
yielded to the Spirit (see Eph 5:18).
There is great power and authority in
being filled with the Spirit. He produces a confidence
and courage in us that enables us to do things that we
normally could not do. He can enable us to love the
unlovely and He can enable us to boldly proclaim God’s
truth even during times of opposition.
If you have experienced the baptism of
the Holy Spirit, will you pray, “Lord fill me anew.” If
you have never experienced the baptism of the Holy
Spirit, will you pray, “Lord, baptize me with the Holy
Spirit and fire.”
