Behold, I send the Promise of
My Father upon you; but tarry in the city[a]of
Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on
high.” – Luke 24:49
The verse above draws our
attention to one very important purpose that the
Spirit of God serves in the lives of God’s people.
This is the purpose of enduing God’s people with
power. It is very uncommon to speak about the Spirit
of God without mentioning the power He imparts in
the lives of believers.
In this text, Jesus Christ was
bidding His followers farewell and as part of His
farewell messages, He encourages them that He will
send the Promise of His Father upon them. The
Promise of Jesus’ Father is the Holy Spirit. Jesus
Christ instructs that His followers should tarry in
the city of Jerusalem until they receive the
Promise.
It is evident in Acts 2 that
Jesus’ followers did wait in prayer and oneness
until the Spirit of God came upon them. This was a
remarkable day as the once timid followers after
being endued with power came out boldly proclaiming
the truth that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and
Savior of all humanity. They spread this news to all
that they may believe and also receive the Holy
Spirit and live in the truth of Christ.
The Spirit of God still endues
believers with God’s power today - power to enable
one to live as victorious children of God and be
witnesses of God’s saving, sanctifying, and
empowering grace.

Preach the Word, be prepared in season
and out of season, correct, rebuke and encourage with great
patience and careful instruction 2 Timothy 4:2
This verse speaks of the great essentials
that must be carried on to fulfill the prayer of our Lord
and to advance the kingdom of God, to bring to fulfillment
that amazing work that began by His first appearing upon the
earth. When we read the phrase "Preach the Word, however,
most of us think that this is addressed to preachers are one
has to do this in church, on a platform, or behind a pulpit.
This word is not addressed to preachers
only. It includes all the people of God, for Paul does not
merely mean to preach, the word is really "announce,
proclaim, set it forth, deliver the truth, make it known."
It is not something you argue about, you declare it because
God Himself has said it. This can be done over a cup
of coffee, in an office, or in a car while you are driving
to work. It is something that can come up any place,
any time. Where human hearts are open, seeking,
longing, and hurting, there is the place, thee is the
opportunity to "Preach the word."
So where ever and when ever - "Proclaim
the good news."

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the
harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 9:38 The wisest
thing we could do in the eyes of God is to remain faithful
in evangelism. The soul is of great worth: Jesus
died upon the cross, paying the price with His blood and
agony to show how much He desired our souls.
Our souls are also valuable because of
their durability. When God made the human soul, He
made it in His own image, therefore it is endless, timeless,
dateless, and measureless.
Every soul has the potential to be
transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ or to spend
eternity in the pits of Hell.
We would be wise to evangelize because
it is the command of Christ. We remember that we are
programmed to go forth (Psalm 126:6) nothing takes the place
of going. It's not enough to "live good lives,"
because our lives are not what saves souls, salvation
through Jesus' death and resurrection is what saves souls.
ACTION ITEM (Practice this):
Ask God who He is calling to you to go to this week.
How will you live out that call?

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
"Come To Me" is an invitation for the
broken-hearted soul, the heavy-laden saint, and the wretched
sinner. COME, just as you are is the invitation.
"Come unto Me, ALL you who labor and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest."
This promise of rest that Jesus offers
is a rest that He freely gives to all who will come to Him
for salvation to save, salvation to deliver, salvation to
heal, or salvation for any spiritual need.
Jesus extended the invitation, will you
respond and come unto Jesus?
